Warning! Thin Ice and Open Water!
Published on January 23, 2026
The aeration system in Worthington’s Lake Okabena is scheduled to begin operation on January 26, 2026. Operation of the aeration system will cause open water and thin ice on the eastern portion of Lake Okabena. Warning signs will be posted at lake access points; however, lake users are cautioned that thin ice and open water will be present in this area. Important Safety Reminder: Thin ice may occur anywhere on the lake, even in areas where no aeration system is in operation. Lake users are urged to use extreme caution and avoid areas of open water or unstable ice conditions.
