Becoming a Worthington Police Officer

  1. Desirable experience and training

    • Associate’s degree from an accredited college
    • Previous law enforcement experience
  2. Special requirements

    • U.S. citizen
    • Possession of a Peace Officer License or eligibility to be licensed through the State of Minnesota POST Board
    • Must possess or be able to obtain a valid, unrestricted Minnesota driver’s license
    • Physical condition satisfactory to fulfill the duties of the position as determined by a physician
    • Pass a thorough background investigation, psychological evaluation, medical examination, and drug test
  3. Work environment

    • Base patrol schedule: 12-hour shifts (3 on, 2 off, 2 on, 3 off) with every other weekend off
    • Well-equipped and maintained squad cars
    • Assigned squads stored in a climate-controlled garage
